Samina Ali
, a doctoral student in English, earned the Marilyn Yarbrough Dissertation Fellowship from Kenyon College for her project on representations and treatment of Latin American and South Asian women after 9/11, entitled “Bad Women and the Politics of Recognition." Ali is the first graduate student from UM to receive this competitive award, named after the legal scholar Marilyn Yarbrough who studied racial and gender discrimination. Read more.


Emily Powell
, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biology, has received the RC Lewontin Graduate Research Excellence Grant from the Society for the Study of Evolution. The goals of these grants is to identify and support innovative and potentially high-impact research by beginning graduate students.
